Palace Cafe Cheesecake review

I am once again behind schedule so there will be two reviews this week. I went to NOLA for a few days to get away from everything and thus has multiple Cheesecakes so stay tune. Outside of that I really don't have too much that I want to talk about up here other than I would recommend to whomever reads these blog post to watch the Dead Poet's Society. Fing great movie.

Onto the Cheesecake review.

I went to New Orleans this past weekend with a buddy of mine from high school and also to see another friend who lives in Baton Rouge. I had a pretty good time besides dealing with my hangover from hell that occurred. I don't think being walking distance from Bourbon Street helped that much. Nonetheless it was entertaining, as NOLA is the best place to go for about three days out of every year. After those three days I would probably need something like a hurricane to wash off its 'unique' smell (using unique as the word there is a pretty weak, unlike the smell). Its not like the smell is strictly in NOLA; you can smell it in Baton Rouge as well. Funny thing is that some people (like my buddy in BR) just love it and don't want to leave (which personally blows my mind but its understandable at a general level). My friend put it best during our mutual agreement of never going to live in that state. Louisiana is a contagion, some people are born into it, molded by it, and are accustomed to dealing with the contagion. But the rest of us will get sick if we are there for too long. I think this concept holds true for any place in the world though so I'm just straight hatin on Louisiana. I'll chalk that bias up based on my past life experiences in a city with similar vibes to both BR and NOLA. #overgeneralization

I was recommended by one of the insanes who loves living in NOLA to go try a breakfast place that was literally right across the street from the hotel we stayed at. After gambling a bit the night before (sat the Pai Gow table for like three hours and got pretty loose) we went to bed at 3 in the morning and woke up at 11. We got our stuff together for the day and proceeded to walk right across the street. This place is called Palace Cafe. Here is the link to its menu. I was told they had an excellent brunch but I was definitely not using my brain as I assumed their lunch menu was their brunch menu. So I got some shrimp rolls and a few drinks. And in typical NOLA fashion, you could taste the alcohol in those drinks so I was very satisfied with that. Furthermore, the shrimp rolls were phenomenal. I will say this there is not a place that has better food than the seafood you can find there (seafood, Italian food, and steaks are pretty neck an neck in terms of general food types I love). Simply incredible.

Along with that food they had an pumpkin Cheesecake that I wanted to try. Frankly I don't think I would have spent the money for this Cheesecake, given the pumpkin and molasses cake crumbs as two of the main ingredients in the Cheesecake. But as stated before my brain was on autopilot, saw Cheesecake on the menu and ordered Cheesecake on the menu. It came out and it looks like it would be so worth it if the person liked the adder ingredients to the Cheesecake. I usually don't so demerits for that. Furthermore the added ingredients in some bites seemed to overpower the Cheesecake. Wasn't that big of a fan. However if we ignore those weak sauce adders, the Cheesecake itself was top shelf. Smooth consistency, the cake crumb crust was excellent because it added a bit of a taste to it but not too much. Plus this thing was a large slice. I give it excellent marks on that. Its just hard to put it up there with the adders it had. At least put some good adders on there, like strawberries or caramel. #traditionalist
